Country’s first ever report on sustainable development goals from private sector launched by GDIC on Thursday to enhance growth in collective effort.
Green Delta Insurance Company Ltd., in partnership with the CSR Centre and CRAB Ltd. (Credit Rating Agency of Bangladesh), has published country’s First Sustainability Report (SDG Report) in the private sector to implement the SDGs in Bangladesh, based on UNGC Principles, GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) standards & OECD Guidelines.
Foreign Minister, A. K. Abdul Momen MP, was the chief guest at the SDG Report launching ceremony at Westin Dhaka while Green Delta Insurance Managing Director Farzanah Chowdhury chaired over the function.
Financial Institution Division Senior Secretary, Mr. Ashadul Islam; Insurance Development Regulatory Authority’s Member, Dr. M Mosharraf Hossain; British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, HE Robert Chatternton-Dickson and UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, Ms. Mia Seppo, were present on the occasion. CSR Centre Chairman Mr. Farooq Sobhan moderated the pre-launching discussion meeting.
Addressing the function, Foreign Minister Abdul Momen said Bangladesh owns SDGs in terms of political commitment from government for development transformation within the framework of SDGs implementing through our national planning tools.
SDGs, also known as Sustainable Development Goals, was adopted by all United Nations member states in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure peace and prosperity by 2030.
“Bangladesh was an early starter in initiating SDGs implementation adopting a ‘whole of society. We see the SDGs as an opportunity to align our priorities with those that can support global development,” he added.
Managing Director & CEO, Farzanah Chowdhury said, Green Delta Insurance considers the SDG goals an opportunity to step up on sustainability, providing better service for more people and delivering on the aspiration of zero environmental impact by 2030.
“To contribute in achieving the 169 targets in the SDGs, we aim to work through partnerships with both public and private organizations across multiple goals. We are committed to supporting the Government of Bangladesh to realize the SDG Agenda 2030,” added Farzanah.
Bangladesh actively participated in setting the 2030 agenda by proposing a set of goals, targets and indicators; Bangladesh proposal contained 11 goals and 48 targets of which 10 goals were directly reflected in the 17 goals of SDGs and the remaining one was included in the SDG targets.
